Electronic Fingerprinting and Submission
Using an RCMP-accredited system, we capture your fingerprints, photograph, and basic biographical details and submit them electronically for processing. Each session typically lasts 10-20 minutes. While the processing timeline depends on the RCMP, electronic submission ensures significantly faster results compared to traditional ink and roll methods, giving 1800 Notary clients an expedited experience.
FBI Card Ink and Roll Fingerprints
Ink and roll fingerprinting is often required for international police checks and certain Canadian security clearances. 1800 Notary provides this service, where fingerprints are taken on a physical card without the need for a photograph. Clients receive the completed card to submit independently to the appropriate authority. Each session for a single card takes about 15 minutes. Be sure to verify the specific fingerprinting requirements of the country or organization you are applying to, such as the FBI’s instructions for the USA.
The Process
Regardless of the submission method or destination, the process remains consistent. Authorities, typically police in the relevant jurisdiction, compare submitted fingerprints with their database records. If no match is found, a certificate confirming a clean record is issued. If a match exists, the certificate will include relevant details, which vary by jurisdiction. Those with records who want to know what may appear on the certificate should consult the authorities or legal counsel in the applicable region. Alternatively, you can submit your fingerprints to determine the outcome directly.
Other Requirements and Helpful Tips:
If any of the following applies to you, make sure to bring all necessary documents to your appointment:
- If you are unsure about the required ID, bring all available identification or contact us in advance for guidance.
- If the organization requesting your fingerprints provided a letter or file number, be sure to bring them.
- For Canadian Citizenship or Immigration applications, bring your file and client ID (UCI) numbers.
- If you require a Vulnerable Sector Check, you must first initiate this request with your local police department.
- Volunteers should bring an official letter from their organization, on its letterhead, to waive RCMP fees.
- If a specific fingerprint card is needed (other than RCMP or FBI cards), ensure you have it with you.
If your fingerprint results are to be sent to a third party, have their complete contact details ready.
- If you are applying for Federal Security Screening, confirm which government office is handling the process, such as Public Services and Procurement Canada (ORI PQ80800).
- If the requesting party has special instructions, such as requiring a notarized fingerprint card, inform our staff and provide the details.
Preparing for Fingerprinting:
- If you have dry or worn skin, fine fingerprint ridges, or previous issues with fingerprinting, moisturize your hands frequently for a few days before your appointment.
- If your job involves manual labor, try to schedule your appointment after a break to allow your hands to recover.
- Inform staff about any chronic skin conditions or scars from injuries so they can assist with accurate processing.
During the Process:
- Work with the staff for the best results. Avoid stiffening your fingers, rushing, or attempting to roll your fingers yourself, as these actions often lead to smudging or incomplete prints. Our team is here to ensure your prints are captured correctly.
- Double-check all the information on your fingerprint card or file before leaving. Even a small error, such as an incorrect postal code, can cause delays or require you to redo the process.
